Travel Safety

Oahu is a great place that really does seem like true paradise.  There’s a rainbow everyday, somewhere on the island, and people are generally nice.  But, just like anywhere in the world, the island also has places that aren’t the safest, especially for tourists and especially at night.  There is a heavy homeless population here and, while many keep to themselves, you should always be mindful when in areas like Chinatown and even Waikiki.  Never leave valuables visible in your vehicle, wander around looking lost, or linger in places where the energy doesn’t feel light and friendly.  When in these areas, always walk with self-assuredness and be aware of your surroundings.  Be kind but not naive.

The video I found should be helpful in letting you know what places to avoid while you’re here.

Don’t let yourself get distracted when in unfamiliar places but also don’t stress.  I’ve lived here for a few years, now, and I still think it’s one of the safest places in the US!
